Autumn Is Upon Us (Interior Design)

Updated: Dec 18, 2023

My favourite time of year and how we can introduce this season into

Interior Design.

Autumn and Interior Design
Dancing in the leaves

Cosy nights in with a warm interior to lighten the soul and feel snug as a bug; lights casting shadows, creating an ambience in your space and then adding to that, a Thanksgiving Celebration (USA).

Leaves crunch underfoot, showing their vibrant colours, a reminder of summer months past.

Home Decor & Interior Design - Bringing the outdoors in.

Bring the outdoors in for this wonderful season. Let me show you how it works in Interior Design.

Browns, creams and muted yellows are your base colours to build upon.

Think about how autumn behaves in your current environment.

Are the pavements covered in fallen leaves yet?

Does that tall tree suddenly appear darker against the hazy sky?

Have a look at my mood board that demonstrates how I have used the environment to create a cosy look.

The mood board above demonstrates how to pull a scheme

together, using the environment as a backdrop.

Look at the colour palettes in the round boxes, which is the starting point for Interior Design.

I have chosen an ivory paint as the base colour, with a hint of orange as an accent, bearing in mind I'm being subtle with the orange paint, so it does not dominate the room.

How about painting inside the alcoves or the chimney breast?

As an alternative accent to the orange paint, I have chosen a light floral wallpaper, which can be used on a feature wall or in alcoves.

Alert!

New Trend in Interior Design: Wallpapering all four walls in back in trend!

Velvet curtains can often look heavy but will be perfect in a scheme like this, as the neutral walls will lift the vibrant red we have chosen for this scheme, add a tasselled tie-back to offer a classic look.

Giving a nod to the autumn leaf colours and textures, we have chosen leather wing back chairs, side by side in front of a log burning stove. Add layered texture by throwing knitted blankets over the back of the chair, and add a dash of colour with a cushion or two.

A large scale rug works well for this scheme and keeps toes cosy against the biting cold.

We have accessorised with a mixture of classic and modern pieces and added a chrome tripod lamp with a metallic brown drum shade giving a nod to the 'woody' environment.

Keep the floors light with a wood effect finish (If you don't have natural wood flooring). Do not go too dark on your wood finish, as this will absorb the natural light rather than giving the cosy ambience you want to create.

THE BEST THING ABOUT THIS SCHEME

By keeping the neutral walls, we have created a timeless look. You can change out the curtains and accessories for the spring and summer months without the need to keep redecorating! This is a great way to reintroduce a new and cost-effective Interior Design Scheme.
